Industrial Electrical Service Technician

Position Summary


The Industrial Service Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment in existing industrial facilities. This position performs service work, emergency repairs, preventive maintenance, and small to medium-sized electrical projects while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems using electrical test equipment and diagnostic tools.
  • Install, repair, and replace electrical equipment including:
  • Motors
  • Motor control centers (MCCs)
  • Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
  • Transformers
  • Switchgear
  • Panelboards
  • Disconnects
  • Industrial lighting systems
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on industrial electrical systems.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical failures to minimize customer downtime.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, one-line diagrams, control schematics, and equipment manuals.
  • Install conduit, cable tray, wire, and industrial raceway systems.
  • Terminate power and control wiring.
  • Perform motor troubleshooting, megger testing, continuity testing, and voltage verification.
  • Assist with equipment startup and commissioning.
  • Maintain accurate service reports, material lists, and daily documentation.
  • Communicate professionally with customers regarding repairs, recommendations, and project status.
  • Follow all OSHA, NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and company safety procedures.
  • Participate in after-hours emergency service rotation as required.
  • Maintain company vehicle, tools, and equipment in a clean and professional manner.
Qualifications
 
  • 5+ years of industrial electrical experience preferred.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with industrial electrical systems.
  • Experience working in manufacturing plants, paper mills, food processing facilities, automotive plants, water/wastewater facilities, chemical plants, or similar industrial environments.
  • Ability to read electrical prints and control schematics.
  • Experience with:
  • Motors and motor controls
  • VFDs
  • PLC I/O troubleshooting (programming not required but preferred)
  • MCCs
  • Switchgear
  • Transformers
  • 480V three-phase systems
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass background screening and drug testing.

Preferred Qualifications
  • State Journeyman Electrician License
  • OSHA 30 Certification
  • NFPA 70E Training
  • CPR/First Aid Certification

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work from lifts.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and industrial environments.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and respond to emergency service calls when required.
